The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has directed oil companies to stop employing unregistered engineers in the oil sector. The Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Felix Ogbe, made this declaration at the ongoing Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Ogbe emphasized that only engineers certified by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) should be engaged for contracts in the oil and gas industry. He noted that the law does not permit any engineer who is not registered with COREN to practice in Nigeria.

The COREN boss revealed that many engineers working in the oil and gas sector are not registered with the council, which is a violation of the law. He appealed to both international and indigenous oil companies to ensure that only registered individuals are engaged in their engineering works.
Ogbe urged oil companies to partner with COREN to ensure that all engineers working on their projects are registered with the council. This partnership would help to promote professionalism and adherence to industry standards in the oil and gas sector.
The Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Gbenga Komolafe, outlined the commission’s agenda for deepening indigenous capacity and strengthening investor confidence in the oil and gas industry. He emphasized the need for robust upstream investments, regulatory transparency, and infrastructure development to attract both local and foreign investors.
Komolafe stressed the importance of developing local talent and businesses in the oil and gas industry, describing it as a strategic necessity and moral obligation. He also emphasized the need for industry operators to prioritize environmental responsibility while pursuing investment and growth.
The NCDMB’s directive and COREN’s appeal highlight the importance of adhering to industry standards and regulations in the oil and gas sector. By promoting professionalism and certification, the industry can ensure that projects are executed safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
