Electricity consumers across Lagos State should brace for intermittent power supply disruptions over the next 25 days, starting today, July 28, through to August 21, 2025.

‎‎This temporary blackout is a result of scheduled maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the critical Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.

‎‎According to TCN, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the National Independent System Operator (NISO) have approved this infrastructure upgrade, which involves the installation of an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fibre cable a move deemed essential for improving the national grid’s efficiency.

‎‎Daily maintenance operations will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., during which affected areas may experience load shedding or temporary power loss.

‎‎Despite the disruptions, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, assured consumers that power would be restored after each day’s work. She further noted that all other circuits feeding Lagos would remain active to ensure relative grid stability during the upgrade period.

‎Once completed, the upgrade is expected to enable full deployment of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, which allows real-time monitoring and control of the grid enhancing overall transmission reliability nationwide.

‎‎In light of the development, both Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electric (IE) have issued public advisories to their customers, confirming the planned outages. They also apologized for any inconvenience caused and assured consumers of efforts to minimize disruption.
