In a surprising turn of events, Kenneth Okonkwo, the former spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, has announced his resignation from the party. Okonkwo cited the ongoing internal strife and leadership crisis as the reasons behind his decision to leave. He also expressed his lack of confidence in the party’s presidential flag-bearer, Peter Obi, to bring about the necessary changes needed to rescue Nigeria.
Okonkwo, the former spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, has announced his resignation from the party.
The leadership of the Labour Party has responded to Okonkwo’s departure, labeling him as a mole within their ranks. Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the LP, expressed that they were not surprised by Okonkwo’s resignation and found his attack on Peter Obi to be unnecessary and unfortunate. Ifoh stated that Okonkwo’s attention-seeking behavior knows no bounds and that they will not dignify him with a response.
Ifoh further pointed out that Okonkwo is not the only one to have resigned from the party recently. He mentioned the resignation and subsequent return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) of Doyin Okupe, a former Director-General of the party’s presidential campaign organization, as well as the resignation of another ex-Deputy Director-General of the presidential campaign organization who also rejoined the APC. Ifoh suggested that Okonkwo’s destination was already known to them, implying that he may also be heading back to the APC.
The Labour Party remains steadfast in its support of Peter Obi as its leader and presidential hopeful for the 2027 presidential election. Ifoh emphasized that coordinated attacks against Obi from various quarters will not diminish the trust that Nigerians, particularly the Obidients and youth, have in him. The party believes that with Obi’s leadership, a new Nigeria is possible, and they are resolute in their stance. Ifoh also hinted at the presence of other individuals within the party who are acting as moles and instigating crises, cautioning them to take appropriate action before being exposed and expelled from the party.
As the news of Okonkwo’s resignation spreads, it remains to be seen how it will impact the Labour Party and its future endeavors. The party is determined to move forward with its chosen leader and continue its mission to bring positive change to Nigeria.
