The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid for the 2027 presidential election. The party’s chairman, Mr. Olaide Abas, stated that the recent defection of members from opposition parties to the APC is a clear indication that many Nigerians are buying into the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.

According to Abas, Nigerians are shunning primordial sentiments and selfish interests and joining the APC, which is on course for national rebirth and holistic development of the nation. The APC recently welcomed defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Labour Party, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa, Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, commissioners, and local government chairmen.Oyo APC Endorses Tinubu's Re-Election, Cites Defections as Signs of Acceptance

The Oyo APC chairman spoke at the end of a party stakeholders’ meeting held at the state office of the party in Ibadan, the state capital. The meeting was attended by APC State Executive Committee members and party chairmen across the 33 local government areas in the state. Abas said, “The recent gale of defections by members of the opposition parties is a pointer to the fact that many discerning Nigerians are ready to key into the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.”

The meeting saw the state chapter of the party declaring its readiness to work for the re-election of Tinubu in the 2027 election. The Oyo APC said its decision was informed by the efficacy of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the promises which the Tinubu leadership holds for Nigeria and the African continent. Abas added, “The stakeholders needed to acknowledge the milestone reached by the current administration of President Tinubu in less than two years.”

Abas stated that Tinubu deserved another four-year term, having shown a good understanding of the challenges facing the country and possessing a blueprint to tackle them. He said Nigerians needed to give Tinubu enough time to complete the enormous task of repositioning the country.

In a related development, a group of eminent personalities within Oyo APC, known as “The Peace Advocates,” has restated their commitment to restoring harmony and team spirit in the party ahead of the 2027 general election. The group, led by Dr. Akin Onigbinde (SAN), Mr. Wale Ohu, and Mr. Niran Olayoju, pledged to embark on a tour of all the geopolitical zones in the state to preach genuine peace and reconciliation among party faithful.
