The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep concern over the alleged abduction of 163 worshippers during a Sunday church service in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, describing the incident as a painful reflection of Nigeria’s worsening security situation.

In a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, extended sympathy to the families of the abducted worshippers, stating that the incident represents the inability of the Bola Tinubu-led APC administration to protect citizens’ right to freedom of worship.

The PDP called for urgent action, urging the Federal Government to focus on rescuing the abducted worshippers rather than engaging in “performative crisis management”. The opposition party also advocated for state policing, citing it as a potential solution to curb such incidents. “We are convinced that if state policing had been operational, these criminals may not have successfully operated with such impunity and taken this large number of people captive,” the statement read.

The PDP emphasized that the protection of citizens is the government’s primary constitutional responsibility, and every Nigerian deserves to worship in safety. The families of the abducted worshippers anxiously await their return.

The incident has sparked controversy, with the Kaduna State Police Command denying reports of the abduction, while the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) confirms that 163 worshippers were taken captive
