The Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, has visited St. Matthew’s Royal Academy in Irrua, Edo State, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration in healthcare education.
The visit, which took place on Friday, March 27, saw Prof. Ize-Iyamu and members of the hospital’s management engage with the founder and president of the academy, Rev. Matthew Okpebholo, in recognition of his contributions to nursing education.
St. Matthew’s Royal Academy, located in Eidenu, Esan Central Local Government Area, is noted for its role in training nursing professionals.
During the visit, the UBTH CMD commended the institution’s commitment to producing quality healthcare personnel, describing nursing as a critical pillar of the health sector.
Addressing students of the academy, she urged them to remain dedicated to their studies and uphold the values of the profession.
“Nursing is a noble profession, and you are indispensable in the health sector. As nursing students, be worthy ambassadors of this institution and strive for excellence,” she said.
Prof. Ize-Iyamu further emphasised the vital role nurses play in patient care and the broader healthcare system, noting that their contributions are essential to effective service delivery.
The visit underscored the importance of collaboration between training institutions and healthcare providers in improving standards and outcomes in the sector.
