World Leaders Pay Tribute to Former US President Jimmy Carter

President Bola Tinubu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and other world leaders have paid glowing tributes to former US President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on the age of 100. Carter was remembered for his dedication to humanitarian causes, his commitment to democracy, and his efforts to promote peace and stability around the world.

President Tinubu described Carter as a beacon of humanity” whose post

presidential life exemplified leadership and service to global causes. He praised Carter’s legacy in peacebuilding, disease eradication, and the promotion of democracy, and noted that his historic visit to Lagos in 1978 strengthened Nigeria-US relations and positioned Nigeria as a key partner in US foreign policy.

 

Former President Obasanjo also paid tribute to Carter, describing him as a humble leader who exemplified lifelong service to humanity. He commended Carter’s post-presidential engagements, noting that he remained active in global affairs and held his successors accountable when necessary. Obasanjo also lamented the global deficit in leadership, urging political leaders to emulate Carter’s commitment to building a secure, stable, and prosperous world.

 

Other world leaders who paid tribute to Carter included Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Chinese President Xi Jinping, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

 

El-Sisi described Carter as a symbol of humanitarian and diplomatic efforts, whose deep belief in peace and justice inspired many individuals and institutions around the world. Herzog praised Carter’s bravery and his historic efforts to bring together Israeli and Egyptian leaders to forge a peace agreement.

 

Xi Jinping noted that Carter was a promoter and decision-maker in the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the US, and that he made significant contributions to the development of China-US relations and the friendship between the two countries.

 

Macron described Carter as a steadfast advocate for the rights of the most vulnerable, who tirelessly fought for peace and human rights. Starmer paid tribute to Carter’s decades of selfless public service, noting that his presidency will be remembered for the historic Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt.

 

Zelensky expressed heartfelt condolences to the American people and Carter’s family, noting that Carter was a leader who served during a time when Ukraine was not yet independent, yet his heart stood firmly with Ukraine in its ongoing fight for freedom. Trudeau described Carter as a lover of democracy and a defender of peace, who will be remembered for his legacy of compassion, kindness, empathy, and hard work.

 

Lula da Silva noted that Carter was a lover of democracy and a defender of peace, who pressured the Brazilian dictatorship to release political prisoners and later campaigned for the promotion of human rights, peace, and the eradication of diseases in Africa and Latin America.

 

Overall, the tributes to Carter reflected his dedication to humanitarian causes, his commitment to democracy, and his efforts to promote peace and stability around the world. His legacy will continue to inspire leaders and individuals around the world to work towards a more just and peaceful world.
