As the world marks the CSW69, the future of any nation depends on the daily activities of those that duel therein!

The strength, resilience, and determination of women around the world, is a key factor in their development.

As we mark 2025 International Women’s Day, we acknowledge the progress made towards gender equality from the struggles being made by gender focused organizations. But yet women still struggle for genuine recognition.

After 30 years of Nigeria signing the CEDAW treaty, domesticating it into the Nigerian constitution has become an uphill task. The few women we have in public life and positions of authority, which includes politics and the legislature are still being abused and discriminated against.
A test case is the on going issues with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and the Senate  President Senator Akpabio
How can a fellow Senator be treated in such a disdain manner and the issues are being swept under the carpet, with no intention to address it. Rather they are suspending her from the Senate, an elected official representing a senatorial district?

However, we will continue to struggle for women and the girl child empowerment and the protection from all forms of abuse and discrimination, breaking down all barriers, to create a more inclusive and equitable society for all.

Although it’s sad to note that this menace is around every survivor, (Government, neighbor, co-worker, boss, associate(s), household, family members and the communities) we live in.

It is most unfortunate to note that 30 years gone after the Beijing Platform for Action was declared with 12 critical areas of concern signed, women still lack leadership positions, in politics and public life. Women are excluded and discouraged, just because of their gender!!!

Violence Against Women, VAW has become more rampant at all levels. However, we’re not relenting. We shall keep on the struggle.

Happy International Women’s Day 🫂💃
