EFCC Arraigns Sierra Leonean Favour Kamara Over Alleged $190,324 Lagos Property Fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a Sierra Leonean national, Favour Foday Kamara, before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja over allegations that he dishonestly converted $190,324 belonging to a 70 year old woman for personal use in a disputed property transaction.
Kamara was arraigned on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, before Justice O. A. Okunuga on a two count charge bordering on alleged stealing and fraudulent conversion. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to reports citing information released by the anti-graft agency.
The petitioner, Henrietta Vandi, a United States based Sierra Leonean, alleged that she met Kamara during a visit to the Synagogue Church of All Nations between 2019 and 2020. She reportedly said he subsequently encouraged her to invest in Nigeria.
According to the EFCC, Vandi allegedly transferred money through Ria, Western Union, MoneyGram and cash deposits into Kamara’s Access Bank account to finance the purchase and renovation of a property in the Araromi area of Alimosho, Lagos.
The commission alleged that the property was subsequently acquired in Kamara’s name and that he occupied the premises and collected rental payments from tenants. The alleged financial transactions and ownership arrangements form part of the issues to be examined during the court proceedings.
One of the charges accuses Kamara of dishonestly converting $190,324 belonging to Vandi between August 2021 and February 2025. The alleged offence is said to contravene Sections 278(1)(b) and 285(9) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Following the defendant’s plea, prosecution counsel, Nnaemeka Omewa, requested a trial date and asked the court to remand Kamara in a correctional facility.
Justice Okunuga subsequently adjourned the case until October 29, 2026, for further proceedings and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
The case highlights the legal and financial risks that can arise from property investments involving cross border transfers and disputed ownership arrangements. However, the allegations remain unproven, and the court will determine the defendant’s criminal liability based on the evidence presented during trial.
Kamara’s plea of not guilty means the prosecution must establish its case in accordance with the law. He remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a competent court.
