Rauf Olaniyan, the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, has expressed his gratitude over being impeached from office in 2025. In a candid interview, Olaniyan attributed his impeachment to “irreconcilable differences” with Governor Seyi Makinde.
Olaniyan denied allegations of disloyalty and financial recklessness, stating that he had always shown respect to the governor. He recalled how he would visit the governor’s office every morning to inquire about assignments, demonstrating his commitment to his role.
The former deputy governor also addressed rumors about his ambition to become governor, stating that he had not sought the position by any means. Instead, he emphasized his focus on serving the people of Oyo State
Olaniyan joined the APC shortly after his impeachment, citing his desire to remain active in politics. He denied receiving any promises or compensation from the party.
Regarding the Oke-Ogun agenda for the 2027 elections, Olaniyan expressed his support for the region’s demand for a governor. He argued that Oke-Ogun has the numbers and qualified candidates to produce a governor, and that it’s only fair for the region to have a turn.
Olaniyan also shared his thoughts on Governor Makinde’s potential presidential bid in 2027, stating that he’s entitled to run if he wishes. However, Olaniyan declined to comment on his own political future, saying that it’s in God’s hands.
Finally, Olaniyan offered his assessment of the Tinubu government, urging patience and endurance as the administration works to address the country’s challenges.
He also expressed support for the tax reform bill, seeing it as a necessary step towards progress
