The League of Women Voters in Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, has paid a courtesy visit to the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, seeking strategic collaboration to advance women’s empowerment and leadership inclusion in the state.

The delegation was led by its Chairperson, Barr. Anthonia Asagba, who described the organisation as a non-partisan body committed to promoting women’s active participation in leadership and governance.
She explained that the visit was aimed at exploring areas of partnership with the ministry, particularly in empowering more women to contribute meaningfully to societal development.
Asagba stressed that increasing women’s representation in leadership positions remains critical to building a more inclusive and progressive society.
She noted that the group focuses on advocacy, civic engagement, and capacity building, adding that collaboration with relevant government institutions is key to achieving sustainable impact.
Also speaking, the Financial Secretary of the group, Dr. Diana Cornelius, underscored the need for sustained efforts in promoting gender equality and expanding opportunities for women in governance and decision-making processes.
In her response, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Eugenia Abdallah, commended the delegation for its advocacy and proactive engagement. She reaffirmed the Edo State Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment where women can thrive socially, economically, and politically.
The Commissioner highlighted the importance of partnerships with organisations like the League of Women Voters in driving gender inclusion and sustainable development, assuring the group of the ministry’s readiness to collaborate on impactful initiatives.
The visit ended with both parties expressing commitment to building a strong partnership aimed at enhancing the welfare, capacity, and leadership potential of women across Edo State.
