The incident, which happened in the stands, quickly became viral and turned into meme material. Santos expressed remorse for any distress his actions may have caused and apologized to the lady, his wife, and his children. The host nation, Ivory Coast, faced a challenging situation in the competition but managed to qualify for the knockout stage as one of the third-best teams from the group stage.
